Due to progress in medical research about 90 percent of people for tumors nowaday are outpatients. Recently an
enormous increase in outpatients` clinics for hematology and oncology could be recognized as well as a clear shift of
oncology therapy from inpatients to outpatients. As far as quality of life is concerned this implies an improvement for
patients since treatment in hospital can be reduced to a minimum or even be avoided. Thus there is also an increasing
responsibility for private outpatients` clinics of oncology to participate in the further development of both medical
concepts and clinical research.
In the scope of the competence network more than 80 hemato-oncology private outpatients` clinics have an cooperating in
Germany today in order to establish quality management for the treatment of lymphoma-patients. It is the aim to
guarantee that both patients and doctors are immediatly informed about results of first-class research to facilitate
their translation into diagnosis and therapeutics treatment. Another target of the network is to support the
participation of private outpatients` clinics in clinical studies: Especially in the field of oncology an essential
amount of progress is achieved through clinical studies, to which private outpatients` clinics have not been
contributing enough yet.
