Today, treatment of malignant lymphoma can be provided at an internationally renowned level in Germany. This fact is primarily due to clinical trials aimed at optimization of established therapies and to routinely performed histopathological diagnoses at one of the six "Reference Centers for Lymph Node Pathology". This research project was initiated by pathologists, clinicians and other internationally renowned scientists working in lymphoma research and it is funded by the "Deutsche Krebshilfe" to expand the knowledge of molecular mechanisms leading to and found in malignant lymphoma. The collaboration is based on the perception that future lymphoma therapy will increasingly be influenced by molecular parameters in addition to traditional clinical and histopathological prognostic factors. Therefore, current and newly developed methods in molecular genetics will be used to investigate underlying mechanisms in malignant lymphoma. The relevance of these findings for prognosis and therapy will be verified in cooperation with the clinical study groups of the Network of Competence for Malignant Lymphoma. The result of this project will be a unique data base of clinical, genetic and gene expression data.
