The "German Study Group on PTLD" was founded in 1999 in order to optimize the diagnostics and therapy of Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative disorders (PTLD). The study group leaders are Associate Professor Dr. R. Trappe and Professor Dr. H. Riess (Charite Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Virchow-Klinikum, Medizinische Klinik mit Schwerpunkt Hämatologie und Onkologie, Director: Professor Dr. med. B. Dörken).
Although solid organ transplantation has now become clinically routine, with patients often benefiting from it over
decades, more and more attention is now having to be paid to late complications like PTLD.
In addition, PTLD can serve as a model for the pathogenesis of lymphoproliferative diseases in immunocompetent
patients.
In 2001, the "European Study Group on PTLD" was established out of several scientific research groups from various European countries (Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Germany). The main focus of this Study Group is on basic and clinical research and its aim is to improve therapy results in patients with PTLD through corporate clinical and scientific research and studies.
