On the initiative of the German Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the German Hodgkin Lymphoma Study Group (GHSG) has been founded in Germany in 1978 with the purposes of improving treatment outcome, and of disseminating a high common standard in medical practice - diagnostics, treatment, and follow-up - for patients with Hodgkin's disease.
Since the establishment of the GHSG the numbers of participating centres and patients could be steadily increased. By now, the recent trial generation of the study group (HD13 to HD15) is accompanied by more than 400 centres including university and non-university hospitals, as well as specialists in private practices. In total, the GHSG has recruited and analysed more than 10.000 patients with Hodgkin's disease. The annual recruitment rate is currently amounting to approximately 800 patients; this number reflects 40% of the annual incidental rate of cases of Hodgkin's diseases.
