The German High Grade Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Study Group (DSHNHL) is an association of physicians and scientists.
The primary object is to improve treatment results for patients with aggressive Non-Hodgkin Lymphomas by conducting
clinical and scientific studies.
The DSHNHL was established in 1993 under the leadership of Prof. Dr. M. Pfreundschuh (Homburg /Saar) as complimentary
partner of the Marburger (Prof. Dr. K. Havemann) and the Kiel/Essen Lymphoma Group (Prof. Dr. G. Brittinger).
Within a few years the DSHNHL established itself worldwide as one of the most effective study groups regarding
aggressive Lymphomas. More than 240 hospitals and physicians have treated more than 3500 patients in phase II and III
therapy studies.
Thanks to the continuous support of the Deutsche Krebshilfe the ambitious work of the DSHNHL can be realized.
Aggressive Lymphomas can be cured in advanced stages by chemotherapy, because the fast growing lymphoma cells are to
a large propotion in a chemotherapy sensitive growth phase. Since chances for cure are limited at relapse, the efforts
of the oncologists concentrate on the optimization of first line treatment.
The fact that fast growing lymphoma cells respond frequently to treatment, but then will turn resistant, motivated the
DSHNHL to scrutinise a therapy intensification of the most effective substances in prospective randomized clinical
studies.
